Abstract

Background. Chronic rhinitis is one of the most common otolaryngological diseases. The aim. To study the indices of lipid peroxidation in blood plasma of patients with various forms of chronic rhinitis. Methods. The examination groups included 35 patients with chronic allergic rhinitis, 39 patients with chronic vasomotor rhinitis, 22 patients with chronic atrophic rhinitis, 29 patients with chronic infectious rhinitis and 30 people from the control group. The indices of lipid peroxidation in blood plasma were determined by spectrophotometric method in the subjects with chronic rhinitis, as well as in the control group. Statistical analysis was performed using the Statistica 10 package. Results. The analysis of the obtained results of the study of the prooxidant system in the blood plasma of patients with various types of chronic rhinitis revealed a reliably significant increase in the median concentration of diene conjugates and malondialdehyde in patients with chronic allergic, atrophic and infectious rhinitis relative to the control group and patients with chronic vasomotor rhinitis. The increased content of malondialdehyde and diene conjugates is regarded as an increase in lipid peroxidation of cell membranes towards the accumulation of prooxidants. Conclusion. Comparison of four forms of chronic rhinitis revealed statistically significant increase in the content of diene conjugates and malondialdehyde concentration in patients with chronic allergic, infectious and atrophic rhinitis relative to the control group and patients with chronic vasomotor rhinitis. The most significant change in lipid peroxidation indices was found in chronic infectious rhinitis. Antioxidant drugs can have a therapeutic effect in chronic rhinitis.
