The aim of this study was to simulate human atopic dermatitis (AD) using dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB), as well as its combination with ovalbumin (OvA). The resulting model was clinically and histologically similar to moderate human AD. Examination of mouse skin during the acute phase of the disease revealed the dryness and erosion, while the chronic phase revealed the epidermal thickening, dermal edema and inflammation, as well as the mast cell infiltration. The OvA exposure in a combination with DNCB revealed the changes in mouse skin which were more consistent with changes in human skin in AD than exposure to DNCB alone. Mouse skin keratinocytes examination during the acute and chronic stages of the experimental AD revealed the increased heat shock proteins expressions compared to its levels in the control group of mice.
